Frankie Alexander, a jazz vocalist, and a native North Carolinian, has been in the Triangle area since the 70s. Being a vocalist, she’s mad about the words, as proven by her 2007 CD, “Mad About the Words”! Ms. Alexander is part of the history of the Durham jazz scene via of her association with many of its past wonderful players, Yusuf Salim, Bus Brown, Al Neese, to name a few, who by some magical power, congregated at a small, eclectic restaurant/jazz club on Chapel Hill St known as Sallam Cultural Center! There Alexander, along with many jazz musicians who currently perform in the area, was nurtured and nourished in the spirit of the art of jazz. For Ms. Alexander that spirit is what draws musicians and aficionados, alike, to the Durham Jazz Workshop/Sharp 9 Gallery like bees are drawn to nectar.
